Medical aids are quite strict about what dental procedures may be done under general anaesthetic and will have restrictions according to each plan and option. The procedures most commonly performed in our theatres are extractions, such as wisdom teeth, and fairly major dental work on smaller children. If you are dental phobic (like most of us!) and would prefer to have your dental work done under general anaesthetic, your medical aid will probably not pay for the treatment. If, however, the thought of having all your dental work done while you “sleep” is still the only option for you, discuss this with your dentist and a quote for theatre time can be arranged.
