Dr Toogood is the owner and founder of Somerset Surgery. He has a broad scope of surgical interests, in particular breast reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery and laser skin rejuvenation. He was awarded the Trubshaw Medal for the top result in South Africa for the Surgical Primary exam. On completion of his specialisation, he received a six-month fellowship with Prof Daniel Marchac – the world-renowned craniofacial and aesthetic surgeon in Paris, France. He has been in private practice since 2006.

DR CORDULA WINKLER

We are very fortunate to have Dr Winkler as part of our plastic surgery team. She is one of a handful of female plastic surgeons practicing in South Africa, which gives her a unique understanding of women’s health and the female body. Since her undergraduate training – which included a lengthy tenure in a multi-disciplinary intensive care unit – she’s had a passion for plastic and reconstructive surgery. She specialises in cosmetic surgical procedures, such as breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reductions, tummy tucks, liposuction and facial surgery. She also performs non-surgical procedures like Botox and fillers.

DR JAN KLEYNHANS

Dr Kleynhans has extensive experience in aesthetic surgery and a wide range of reconstructive surgery disciplines. He has been in private practice since 1988. He is well known in the field for his commitment to excellence in standards of surgical care, patient safety, confidentiality and ethics in medicine. Following two years as a plastic surgery consultant at Tygerberg hospital in Cape Town – and a six-month study tour to major plastic surgery centres in the USA, Canada and Europe – he settled in private practice in Pietermaritzburg, to pursue his interest in craniofacial surgery. Hereafter he concentrated on aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction and general reconstructive plastic surgery. In 1997, the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International awarded him the Paul Harris fellowship in recognition for his service to the community in the craniofacial field. He relocated to Somerset West in 2010.

Dr Gary Browne is a highly skilled ophthalmologist dedicated to providing expert, patient-centred eye care. He is committed to helping patients achieve and maintain optimal vision through advanced diagnostic techniques, modern surgical procedures and personalised treatment plans.

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 2010, Dr Browne completed his internship and community service, gaining valuable experience in trauma and emergency medicine. He subsequently specialised in Ophthalmology, earning a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology (MMed) from the University of Cape Town and Fellowship of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa (FCOphth).

Dr Browne has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of eye conditions, including cataracts, pterygiums, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome and eyelid disorders. He has a particular interest in cataract surgery, helping patients restore clearer vision and improve their quality of life through modern cataract procedures.

In addition, Dr Browne performs pterygium surgery, treating growths on the surface of the eye that can cause irritation, redness and visual disturbance. His approach focuses on achieving excellent clinical outcomes while ensuring patient comfort throughout the treatment journey.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Browne is passionate about improving access to eye care. In partnership with Somerset Surgery, he participates annually in Eye Care Awareness Month, helping to restore sight to underprivileged members of society.

Known for his compassionate manner and attention to detail, Dr Browne believes in educating patients about their eye health and involving them in every step of their care. DR ANTON VAN BILJON

Dr Anton van Biljon is an experienced ophthalmologist dedicated to preserving and restoring vision through comprehensive eye care and advanced surgical treatment. He combines clinical expertise with a patient-focused approach, ensuring every patient receives individualised care tailored to their visual needs.

Dr van Biljon qualified as an ophthalmologist from the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) in 1994 and has been in private practice ever since. As a general ophthalmologist with a keen interest in anterior segment surgery, he has spent more than three decades caring for patients with a wide range of medical and surgical eye conditions.

He has particular expertise in cataract surgery, one of the most effective procedures for restoring vision impaired by cataracts. Using modern surgical techniques and advanced intraocular lens technology, Dr van Biljon helps patients achieve clearer vision and improved quality of life.

Dr Stefan van Wyk is a specialist ophthalmologist dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care and advanced ophthalmic surgery to patients in Somerset West, the Helderberg Basin, Stellenbosch, Hermanus and the greater Cape Town region. Originally from Wellington in the Western Cape, Dr van Wyk obtained his medical degree (MBChB) from Stellenbosch University before completing his specialist training in Ophthalmology through the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he earned his Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology (MMed). He is also a Fellow of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa (FCOphth SA).
