Vaginal surgery

Words like ‘vaginal rejuvenation’, ‘designer vagina’ and ‘labioplasty’ have become part of the common parlance. But what do they mean? Firstly, relax. Your vagina is probably 100% normal and if you ask your partner or gynaecologist, perfect in every way. But what can be done if things aren’t quite right?

After thorough consultation and examination, your plastic surgeon can offer various solutions to some common concerns:

  1. Liposuction of the mons, fat filling of the labia majora, surgical trimming of the labia minora (labioplasty) or any combination of the above.
  2. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can do wonders for the rejuvenation of the pelvic area. A slight thigh lift is often an added bonus that occurs after abdominoplasty, causing the broad flat ‘V’ of the post-partum groin area to become a more youthful narrower ‘V’.
  3. Vaginal tightening is best performed by a gynaecologist, so very few plastic surgeons offer this procedure.

What about the guys? Scrotal tuck is the most common surgery for men, dealing with the rejuvenation of the genital area. Sometimes, after considerable weight loss, the penis can become hidden under folds of skin. Male abdominoplasty or a belt lipectomy can help lift all the excess skin away from this area – returning things close to normal again.

Feel free to discuss your concerns with your gynaecologist or plastic surgeon. There are few things we have not heard or seen before, so there’s no need to feel embarrased. Sometimes a very simple procedure can offer relief from a problem that has bothered you and limited your quality of life for many years.
